Round table discussion: 1 1/2 hours
Convergence & Continuity
The aim of this session is to stimulate debate about the position of eliteracies in the 5-14 curriculum. Last year's conference was based mainly on the HE and FE sectors, but it was clear that the teaching of eliteracies should begin in the primary classroom.
This round table will assess the current situation in schools and explore ways forward. In addition to the chair, there will be four speakers representing key players in the sector.
- eLiteracy and the curriculum - what is its place in the curriculum? (Nick Morgan, Learning and Teaching Scotland)
- research view - what actually happens in the classroom (Audrey Sutton, North Ayrshire Education Services)
- the teacher's view - why does this happen? what today's teachers have to contend with (Gordon Brown, Girvan Academy, South Ayrshire)
- infrastructure - how do we make the internet safe for children while making the relevant content as accessible as possible? (Stuart Robertson, SEED)
